Berkshire Clock Repair is a family-run business specialising in the careful servicing and restoration of fine and antique clocks.
Led by Magdalena, the practice is founded on patience, discretion, and a deep respect for traditional workmanship. Each clock is approached as an individual object, with careful attention given to its age, condition, and the setting in which it lives.
The ethos of the business was shaped in part by experience developed overseas, where Magdalena’s husband spent time living and working in Bermuda, becoming informally known as the “Master of the Clocks” at the Bermuda National Museum. That period reinforced the importance of careful conservation, sympathetic repair, and long-term stewardship rather than intervention for its own sake.
On returning to the UK, Magdalena established Berkshire Clock Repair in Wargrave, applying those principles within a distinctly Home Counties context. With a detailed understanding of period interiors, domestic settings, and the expectations of private households, she has built the practice locally, developing trusted and long-standing client relationships across Berkshire and the surrounding counties.
Today, the practice continues to accept commissions from a wider area while remaining rooted in measured judgement, clear communication, and a traditionally English approach to clock care.
Each clock is individually assessed, taking into account its age, type, condition, and history. During the initial inspection, the likely cause of any problem is discussed and the work required to return the clock to good running order is explained.
Where possible, an indication of likely costs is given at this stage, and no work is undertaken without the client’s agreement. Any formal record of the work carried out is provided at the conclusion of the repair, together with the invoice.
Once the inspection is complete and you have agreed the recommended approach, the next stage is the careful execution of the work and the return of your clock to regular use.
Once agreement has been reached, the work required is carried out with care and attention appropriate to the age, type, and condition of the clock. Repairs are undertaken sympathetically, with the aim of preserving original components wherever possible and intervening only where necessary.
Following repair and reassembly, the clock is tested to ensure it is running reliably and keeping good time. Where required, assistance is also given with the safe installation and setting-up of the clock in the home, so that it can be returned to regular use with confidence.
At the end of this process your clock will be fully serviced, tested for reliable performance, and returned to you in proper working order.
